Vetmedin (Chewable Tablets) is used to manage certain types of congestive heart failure. It’s different from most commonly used heart medications because it helps the heart pump more efficiently. Vetmedin works by opening up the blood vessels that take blood away from the heart, therefore reducing the amount of work the heart does to pump blood. Vetmedin also opens up the blood vessels returning blood to the heart, reducing pressure on the heat. Vetmedin is proven to increase the quality and length of life in pets.
Dosage and Administration: Vetmedin should be administered orally at a total daily dose of 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) of body weight using a suitable combination of whole or half tablets. The total daily dose should be divided into two portions that are not necessarily equal, and the portions should be given approximately 12 hours apart (ie, morning and evening).
