CLINDAVET® tablets 150 mg: 150 mg Clindamycin base (as hydrochloride)

Excepients: Talc, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Magnesium stearate, Aerosil 200, Starch prezelatinized, Lactose

 INDICATION(S)

CLINDAVET® tablets are indicated for the treatment of infected wounds, abscesses and infections of the buccal-cavity and teeth caused by or associated with Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. (except Enterococcus faecalis), Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum and Clostridium perfringens. CLINDAVET® tablets are also indicated for the treatment of osteomyelitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus. It can also be used to help provide antimicrobial cover during dental operations. Identification of the pathogen and clindamycin sensitivity tests should be performed prior to CLINDAVET® tablets treatment.

 CONTRAINDICATIONS

CLINDAVET® tablets use is contra-indicated for animals with clindamycin or lincomycin hypersensitivity.

Do not administer to rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, horses, ruminating animals and chinchillas due to possible gastrointestinal disorders.

 ADVERSE REACTIONS

After long term use, clindamycin causes growth and multiplication of non-sensitive microorganisms such as clostridia and fungus. In case that this leads to infection, appropriated measures must be taken according to the clinical situation. Vomiting and diarrhea can rarely occur.

DOSAGE FOR EACH SPECIES, ROUTE(S) AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

Administered per os.

Infected wounds, buccal cavity and dental abscesses and infections: 5.5 mg/kg of b.w. every 12 hours for 7 to 10 days.

Treatment of dogs may be extended to a maximum of 28 days based on clinical judgment. If no clinical response is observed within 4 days, diagnosis should be reconsidered.

Osteomyelitis: 11 mg/kg of b.w. every 12 hours for a minimum of 28 days. If no clinical response is observed within 14 days, treatment should be discontinued and reconsidered.

12. SPECIAL WARNING(S)

Clindamycin and erythromycin show parallel resistance. Partial cross-resistance has been demonstrated between clindamycin, and macrolides.

During prolonged therapy of one month or greater, liver and kidney function should be periodically checked and blood tests should be performed.

Sick animals with severe renal and/or very severe hepatic dysfunction accompanied by severe metabolic disorder should be treated with caution and monitored by blood examination during therapy with high doses of clindamycin.
